How does it work?

This is generally the first question clients have about working with a new production company. And while all video projects are unique (more on that later), we do have a standard process when creating a video.

1. We chat

All of our productions start with a simple conversation. You tell us what makes your business awesome, and we’ll figure out how web video can help you reach your goals.

We’ll probably have a couple of questions of our own, but really this chat is all about learning more about you. As an added bonus: if we do it in person, the beverages are on us!

2. We create a treatment and quote

Once we know a bit more about your project, we’ll take everything away and create two documents.

First we’ll create something called a treatment. This is a one-page document outlining how we see your video. We’ll talk about the concept, why we like it, and what we think we’ll need to pull it together.

We’ll also draft up a quote. The quote will be based on our initial conversation as well as the treatment, and provides an estimate of the costs associated with bringing your concept to life.

We like to be as up-front about costs as possible, so sadly any dreams of remaking “Star Wars” for $2000 will have to end here (though that would get you a really sweet Boba Fett costume).

3. Pre-production

Once we’ve agreed on a budget and found a concept everyone’s happy with, the work on our side begins. We’ll draft a script, create storyboards, source actors, and find the perfect location to shoot your video.

So how involved do you need to be in the process? The short answer is: “as involved as you want to be”. Some clients love working closely with their production company, while others prefer a totally hands-off approach – completely up to you.

No matter what your level of involvement is, we’ll ensure we get your sign-off on all the major stuff (scripts, storyboards, etc.), and keep you updated on our progress as we move towards…

4. Production

This is where our experience and access to top-quality talent shines through.

All of the technicians that work on Boom Unit productions are sourced from the Toronto film industry, and bring that cinematic experience to every video our production company creates.

Our talented team will make sure everything runs on-time and on-budget, and take care of every aspect of your video’s production. From lighting and set design to makeup and effects supervision, we’ll provide everything needed to ensure your shoot is a success.

5. Post-production

Here we’ll add the touches your video needs to stand out. Lasers, zombies, bullet-time sequences – it all happens in post.

OK, maybe every video won’t have all of that stuff, but post-production is where we source music and voiceover artists, create motion-tracked titles and graphics, and add visual effects and animations.

You’ll have several opportunities to review your video during post-production, and we’ll ensure you’re happy with every aspect of your video before we provide the finished files.

6. Custom campaign support

So you’ve got your finished video, but what about the “web” part?

Unlike your average video production company, we have a wealth of experience in web design and development, and can show you a ton of ways to get more out of your video content.

Need a customized landing page or microsite to support your video campaign? No problem. Want to create a custom player for your video? We can help you with that.

There isn’t much we haven’t done when it comes to web design, so let us know what you have in mind and we can take it from there.
